On November 4, 2019, Gor Mahia received a much-needed boost when Agro Chemical Food Company injected Sh2 million into the club for their trip to DR Congo to face DC Motema Pembe.
The sponsorship, although small, is a significant lifeline for the financially struggling club. Chairman Ambrose Rachier appealed to fans, government, and corporate organizations to come to the aid of local football, which is in dire straits.
At the signing ceremony, Agro Chemical's CEO Ashok Agrawal said, "We assure Gor Mahia that we will not let them down. We are very excited about this initiative and we will increase our capacity since it is for the benefit of all of us."
Under a five-year deal, Gor Mahia will receive Sh5 for every bottle of Patriot Vodka sold. While some fans may view the deal as small, it is a welcome relief for the club.
As chairman Ambrose Rachier noted, "A drowning man will clutch at straws," and in this case, Gor Mahia is doing just that. The club's financial struggles are well-documented, and this sponsorship is a much-needed lifeline.
Meanwhile, AFC Leopards' chairman Alfred Wekesa Sambu has expressed interest in helping his struggling neighbors. Sambu, known to his fans as Abiola, has a reputation for being a big spender in local football.
