On the weekend, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST RFC) took a crucial win in the KRU Championship, beating United States International University-Africa (USIU) RFC 15-3 at MMUST Grounds.
MMUST RFC's Tyson Juma started the match strong, scoring a converted penalty to give the students a 3-0 lead. However, USIU captain Eliud Mulakoli tied the scores with a penalty before the hosts took a 10-3 halftime lead through a Felix Wamocho touchdown and Juma's conversion.
MMUST RFC then wrapped up the match after Timothy Mmasi crossed over the white wash to hand coach Ahaya Ochieng his second successive win.
Speaking after the match, coach Ochieng praised his team's determination and said, 'We played well and with determination which was good in front of our home fans. We have to maintain the tempo and win our next game.'
Meanwhile, in Nairobi, Strathmore Leos maintained their perfect start in the championship after defeating hosts Mean Machine 17-16 in the battle of the varsities at the University of Nairobi.
Strathmore Leos captain Gabriel Adero said they are taking each game at a time and are focused towards returning to Kenya Cup.
He added, 'The team is hungry for matches as we cannot wait to get back to where we belong; the Kenya Cup. However, we are going to take it easy as the championship this season is quite competitive.'
