On Saturday, a police helicopter crash-landed at Wilson Airport in Nairobi, narrowly avoiding a disaster.
The Mil Mi-17 Hip, registration 5Y-SFA, was preparing to land when it allegedly developed a mechanical problem, forcing it to crash-land meters from the runway.
Fortunately, the three occupants – a chief inspector, an inspector attached to the Kenya Police Airwing, and a flight engineer – escaped unhurt.
The helicopter had arrived from Liboi in Garissa County and was repaired and cleared for take-off after the incident.
This incident comes days after an aircraft operated by Safarilink skidded off the runway at the same airport on landing from Lamu.
On Tuesday, an aircraft operated by Safarilink, registration number 5Y-SLJ, veered off the runway at 6:20 pm after a wheel burst.
According to a statement from the airline, the Cessna Caravan C208 had a tyre burst on landing at Wilson Airport at 6:20 pm, but fortunately, there were no injuries.
The flight was carrying 10 passengers and two crew members.
