On November 3, 2019, Kenya's Joyciline Jepkosgei made her debut in the New York Marathon, finishing first with a time of 2:22:38. She was closely followed by Mary Keitany, who clocked 2:23:32.
Geoffrey Kamworor, who trains with Eliud Kipchoge, the marathon world-record holder, won the men's title for the second time in three years. He pulled away from Albert Korir in the final miles, finishing in 2:08:13.
Kenya's dominance was evident in the other categories as well, with Daniel Kipkore Kibet winning the 41st Istanbul Marathon title in Turkey, and Mathew Kimeli securing the men's 21km title.
Over 37,000 runners, including 63 elite athletes from 106 countries, participated in the marathon.
