On November 3, 2019, Gor Mahia faced Motema Pembe in the CAF Confederation Cup, a competition they had been participating in for three consecutive years.
Despite taking an early lead, Gor Mahia could not secure a win, and Motema Pembe rallied to claim a 2-1 victory in the second leg, ultimately eliminating the Kenyan side from the tournament.
The first leg of the fixture, played at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, ended in a 1-1 draw.
Wellingtone Ochieng opened the scoring for Gor Mahia in the early minutes of the first half, but Motema Pembe drew level just before halftime.
Motema Pembe took the lead minutes after the resumption of hostilities in the second half, and despite Gor Mahia's efforts to restore parity, the hosts held on to claim a 2-1 victory, securing a 3-2 goal aggregate win and advancing to the group stages of the tournament.
