Published on November 3, 2019, Gavana Waiguru has joined forces with Raila Odinga in supporting ODM candidate Imran Okoth in the Kibra by-election.

Waiguru, along with Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, met with Raila in a private meeting before heading to Kibra where ODM will hold a political rally to support Okoth.

The move by Waiguru and other Jubilee governors is seen as a betrayal of their party's stance in supporting their candidate McDonald Mariga.

Waiguru and Kibwana are the latest governors to publicly support Raila Odinga in his bid to win the Kibra by-election.

On Saturday, November 2, Raila also met with Governors Charity Ngilu and Alfred Mutua and pledged to support Imran Okoth.

DP Ruto, who is leading the campaign for Mariga, has accused Raila of being intimidated by the political heat in Kibra and has therefore sought the support of governors.

Speaking in Nakuru County on Saturday, November 2, DP Ruto said, "If you see someone has issued a statement in their bedroom, and you know every man is prone to getting excited in the bedroom... know that the heat has reached them," Ruto said in a political rally at Salgaa, Nakuru.

Political analysts say the Kibra by-election may lead to the formation of new political alliances ahead of the 2022 general elections.
