Published on November 3, 2019, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has joined forces with Raila Odinga in a surprise campaign rally in Kibra, leaving Deputy President William Ruto exposed.
Waiguru, who was once considered a potential running mate for Ruto in 2022, joined Odinga at the Woodley grounds for the Kibra ni Kwetu rally to drum up support for Bernard Imran Okoth, the ODM candidate.
The move has left Jubilee party leaders divided, with some openly declaring their support for Okoth. Waiguru's participation in the rally is seen as a blow to Ruto's campaign, who had been relying on the support of Jubilee party leaders.
Waiguru's decision to join forces with Odinga has also sparked a reaction from Ruto, who has been a vocal critic of the handshake between Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta. Ruto has been quick to dismiss Waiguru's comments, marking the end of their alliance.
Waiguru's active participation in the team Embrace rally, which supports the handshake, has not made things any better with Ruto, who has been a vocal critic of the handshake.
Waiguru's move has also been seen as a surprise to many, given her previous association with Ruto. However, her decision to join forces with Odinga has sent a clear message that she is committed to supporting Okoth's campaign.
