As the demand for land in urban areas continues to rise, unscrupulous land dealers are targeting unsuspecting buyers in fraudulent transactions.

According to land investors, many Kenyans have suffered at the hands of fake land sellers, and the government has been urged to fast track the issuance of title deeds.

Speaking in Matuu, Machakos County, Dhahabu Lands Limited Managing Director Peter Kamau called on the government to implement a directive to profile all land buying and selling companies afresh.

This move, Kamau said, will ensure that rogue firms out to defraud Kenyans are weeded out.

He also urged the government to repeal the interest capping law, which he argued has been punitive to the Kenyan economy.

Enacted by MPs in 2016, the law imposes a cap on commercial lending rates at four per cent points above the Central Bank benchmark, which Kamau says has led to a decrease in money circulation and a destabilization of the economy.
