Published on November 3, 2019, Kenyan athletes Eliud Kipchoge and Brigid Kosgei have been awarded the Abbott World Marathon Majors Series XII award after dominating the competition in New York.

Both Kipchoge and Kosgei secured a perfect score of 50 points each, securing the top spot in their respective categories.

They will receive a prize of KSh 25 million each as part of their award.

Their victory comes after a fierce campaign, where they both won the Virgin Money London Marathon in April 2019.

Before that, Kipchoge had won the BMW Berlin Marathon in September 2018, setting a record time of 2:01:39, which still stands today.

Kosgei, on the other hand, had won the 2018 Bank of America Chicago Marathon in October, setting a record time of 2:18:35 before winning the London Marathon in her first major title.

Other notable athletes, including Lelisa Desisa and Birhanu Legese from Ethiopia, secured second and third places in their respective categories.

Desisa and Legese secured 41 points each, but were edged out by Kipchoge and Kosgei in the voting process.
