As the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams approach, 93,236 students in the Western region are preparing to sit for the exams. According to Kakamega County Director of Education Stephen Barongo, the exams are set to begin on Monday next week.
Barongo, who oversees the exams in the region, revealed that a total of 46,864 female students and 46,322 male students will be sitting for the KCSE exams from the region. Kakamega County has the highest number of students sitting for the exams in the region, with 33,164 candidates, comprising of 16,363 male candidates and 16,801 female candidates.
Other counties in the region, including Bungoma, Busia, and Vihiga, will also have students sitting for the exams. In Bungoma, there are 390 exam centres with a total of 31,811 students, while in Busia, 12,944 candidates will be sitting for the exams in 159 exam centres. Vihiga has 162 exam centres with a total of 15,317 candidates.
Barongo assured that all measures have been put in place to ensure the integrity of the entire exercise, including guarding exam materials, which have arrived and stored in containers. He also called upon parents to give the candidates a humble time and to be aware of exam cartels who may try to exploit the situation.
