On November 2, 2019, a tragic incident unfolded in West Pokot County, Kenya, where a police constable, identified as Kelvin Otovolia Mang'ong'o, attached to Chepkono police post, fatally shot his father.
The elderly man had traveled from their rural home in Kakamega to visit his son in Chepkono area, Pokot South Sub-County.
According to a statement by the police, the father had visited his son on Friday, November 1, and the incident occurred the following day.
Police on arrival at the scene ordered the suspect to surrender, but he attempted to grab a firearm from one of the officers, leading to his fatal shooting.
Both bodies were taken to Kapenguria county hospital mortuary to await postmortem as police try to find clues on what transpired.
It remains unclear what led to Mang'ong'o murdering his father, leaving the community in shock and seeking answers.
