On November 1, 2019, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) extended the validity of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) documentation for six countries through January 4, 2021, as per a federal court preliminary injunction.

The extension applies to nationals of Haiti, El Salvador, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua, and Sudan, and extends the validity of the following documents: Employment Authorization Documents, Forms I-797, Notice of Action, and Forms I-94, Arrival/Departure Record.

Temporary Protected Status is a temporary status given to nationals of countries affected by armed conflict or natural disasters, allowing them to legally live and work in the US.

The DHS extension is in compliance with the federal court's order, which prevents the department from ending the program for the six countries. However, if DHS's challenge to the preliminary injunction prevails, the termination will go into effect, with specific dates varying by country.
