Published on November 2, 2019, a Nairobi man, Achela Salmin Otieno, appeared before a Makadara law court, charged with assaulting his landlord, David Njane Wangari.

Otieno allegedly assaulted Wangari on October 8, 2019, after a dispute over electricity supply. He claimed Wangari had cut him off electricity, leading to the altercation.

However, Otieno denied the charges, claiming Wangari had made false claims to the police and was using them to evict him without following due process.

Through his lawyer, Chalres Midenga, Otieno alleged that Wangari had assaulted him and refused to investigate the matter. He also claimed that Wangari had terminated the tenancy agreement unprocedurally and locked him out of the premises on October 24, 2019.

Otieno was released on a cash bail of Sh10,000 and the hearing of the case is set to start on March 10, 2020.
