Published on November 2, 2019, a man accused of assaulting his landlord in a dispute over a tenancy agreement has accused police of partisanship.
Achela Salmin Otieno, a resident of Ruaraka, Nairobi, was charged before a Makadara law court with assaulting David Njane Wangari on October 8.
According to the allegations, Otieno assaulted Wangari for cutting him off electricity, but he denied the charges, claiming Wangari made false claims to police and is using them to evict him without following due process.
Through his lawyer, Chalres Midenga, Otieno claimed he had a dispute with Wangari, who wants him to vacate the premises, and that Wangari assaulted him after he reported the matter at Ruaraka police station.
He also claimed that Wangari terminated the tenancy agreement unprocedurally and locked him out of the premises compound on October 24, forcing him to park 500 meters away and sleep in his car.
Otieno was released on a cash bail of Sh10,000 and the hearing of the case is set to start on March 10, 2020.
