On November 2, 2019, the body of 20-year-old Juma Onsongo was discovered at Kiango Market in Bomachoge Borabu Constituency, Kisii County.
According to County Police Commander Martin Kibet, Onsongo's body had stab wounds on the neck.
Onsongo was found by the public near the border of Kisii and Narok counties, with a walking stick by his side.
Police launched an investigation into the killing, with Kibet appealing for calm as the investigation continued.
Onsongo's relatives reported that he had left his house to watch a football match at Riyabu Secondary playground, but later left to buy airtime and did not return, raising suspicion.
His body was taken to Nyamache Sub-County Hospital Mortuary.
Residents, including Wright Momanyi, expressed shock and grief over Onsongo's death, which came just two months after the family buried their grandmother.
