On November 2, 2019, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua made a surprise move by joining Raila Odinga in campaigning for ODM candidate Imran Okoth in the Kibra by-election.
Mutua's decision to join forces with Raila Odinga has raised eyebrows, especially given his long-standing feud with Kalonzo Musyoka. The Wiper Party, led by Musyoka, had initially thrown its weight behind Ford Kenya's candidate, Bitangula, but ultimately decided not to field a candidate in the by-election.
