On November 2, 2019, a significant breakthrough was made in the recovery of stolen high-end vehicles from the United Kingdom. According to a statement from the British High Commission, government agencies from both countries had been tracking the cars since March 2019.
Together, they intercepted and seized 21 high-end UK stolen vehicles worth over £1 million (approximately Ksh. 133 million). The operation involved the British National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service (NaVCIS), Interpol, National Crime Agency, and local British police from various sea ports around London.
They collaborated with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Interpol Kenya, and Kenya Ports Authority to identify and seize suspect vehicles coming in through the Mombasa port. The vehicles were destined for various countries in East Africa.
Out of the 21 seized vehicles, four have already been returned to the United Kingdom. The returned vehicles include a black Range Rover Vogue Autobiography, a black Range Rover Sport, a white Mercedes Benz GLE, and a black Range Rover Sports Autobiography.
