Aisha Jumwa Takes Aim at Joho and Kingi

Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has launched a scathing attack on Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi, accusing them of betraying Raila Odinga and prioritizing their own interests over those of the people of Kilifi and Mombasa.

Speaking in Kilifi on November 1, 2019, Jumwa said that she would challenge Kingi for the governorship of Kilifi and Mombasa, and that she would not rest until she had ousted him from power.

"There is no leadership in Kilifi that cares about the interests of the people," Jumwa said. "What Kingi and his team are doing is worshiping the ODM party and one individual. They don't care about the people who are now big-time poor," she added.

Jumwa also accused Joho of betraying the people of Mombasa by abandoning his commitment to their welfare after forming an alliance with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"Joho was fighting for the rights of the people, but he has abandoned them and is now following the President," Jumwa said. "He said he would not stand by and watch the President, but he has forgotten to defend the people who were being oppressed," she added.

Jumwa also claimed that Kingi had been given a seat in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) by Raila Odinga, but that he had refused to acknowledge it.

"We have supported Raila for 15 years and we have not been rewarded," Jumwa said. "We were promised a seat in EALA, but it was given to Oburu Odinga. Kingi knows this, but he is pretending not to know. He is worshiping one individual and one party. What a shame, Kingi, what a shame," she added.
