2019 Safaricom-sponsored East African Safari Classic Rally Plans Announced ¶
On November 1st, 2019, the organizers of the East African Safari Rally Ltd announced the final plans for the 2019 Safaricom-sponsored East African Safari Classic Rally at the Pan Africa Hotel.
The nine-day competition will start from Mombasa and cover a total distance of 4500kms, with 1500kms being competitive distance covering 24 stages in both Kenya and Tanzania.
According to Pipi Renu, the General Manager of the East African Safari Rally Ltd, they have received 21 entries from local and foreign-based drivers, with Kenya being represented by seven drivers and Sweden being the next highest with three crews.
Major sponsors, including Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, the Director Mpesa Safaricom, also attended the occasion. The rules for the Classic Event are not as tough as the Kenya National Rally Championship events, but drivers are still required to sign indemnity forms before the start of the rally.
Each day of the rally will consist of three competitive stages and transport or liaison sections, with crews expected to cover between 390 – 500km on any given day. Classic rallying is all about endurance, and crews should be prepared for mammoth stages of up to 160km long.
The entry list includes drivers from Kenya, Sweden, South Africa, Austria, Britain, Tanzania, Oman, Kenya, Germany, America, and Sweden.
