Published on November 1, 2019, a woman's death at Mbita Sub County Hospital has sparked allegations of negligence and lack of care.

The incident occurred when the woman delivered with the help of midwives, as there were no doctors present to attend to her. She was in severe pain and called for traditional medication, but unfortunately, her child died due to negligence and lack of care.

She was then referred to Homabay Hospital, but the situation worsened upon arrival. The nurses and doctors on duty were asleep, and no one attended to her. A nurse at the hospital described the incident as worrying and called for rapid response to emergency services.

A nurse at the hospital shared a disturbing account of the incident, stating that the woman's life could have been saved if the doctors and nurses had attended to her promptly. He noted that it is a common trend for some workers to neglect patients who require immediate attention.

The nurse wrote, 'Something is really wrong in Mbita Sub County Hospital, pregnant women and children are dying for a preventable reason.' He also stated that the mother was referred to Homabay county referral hospital, where she bled to death due to the negligence of the hospital staff.

There is a public outcry in Mbita Sub County Hospital regarding the way health workers are carrying out their duties. Many patients continue to die in the custody and care of incompetent doctors and nurses. No measures have been put in place to discipline staff members accused of negligence.
