On November 1, 2019, police in West Pokot County launched investigations into the deaths of three people in separate incidents.

One of the incidents involved a police officer, Kelvin Itolovolia, who allegedly murdered his biological father at Chepkono area in Pokot South Sub County using an arrow in a domestic dispute.

According to Frederick Kimanga, the Pokot South sub-county deputy county commissioner, the father of the shot police officer had traveled from Kakamega County to resolve domestic issues with his son.

Kimanga stated that the police officer, who was attached to the Chepkono police post, had grabbed an arrow and stabbed his father several times in the chest, resulting in the father's death on the spot.

Kimanga further noted that the killed officer was violent and had intended to grab a gun from one of the responding officers to shoot other people.

"The cop died while he was being taken to Kapenguria referral hospital. We ended up losing a father and a son," Kimanga said.

In another incident, police officers are investigating the death of a police Inspector Benjamin Tirop, who was found dead inside a guesthouse in Makutano town.

Kimanga stated that the police officer was found dead lying on his bed with blood oozing from his mouth and nose.

According to Kimanga, the police officer had been on duty the whole day manning the Kenya National Examination council container at Tapach area.

"In the evening, the police officer asked for permission to rush to Makutano town saying that he wasn't feeling well. He was granted permission to seek treatment only to be found dead on Friday morning in a guest house," Kimanga said.

The three bodies have been taken to Kapenguria referral hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
