On November 1, 2019, clinical officers in Kenya's public healthcare system downed their tools in a bid to push for better pay and working conditions.

The strike, which was called by the Kenya Clinical Officers Association, was in response to the government's failure to meet their demands for improved remuneration and working conditions.

According to reports, the clinical officers were seeking a salary increase, among other benefits, to bring their pay in line with that of their counterparts in the private sector.
