Published on November 1, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto have taken their supremacy battle to the parliament, each working to control the legislative body.

Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior confirmed that the power struggle between the two leaders has held the house hostage, preventing debate on the national debt issue.

The unity between President Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is believed to have contributed to the differences between the President and Deputy President Ruto, affecting the two houses.

The battle between the two leaders will intensify after the senate-house votes on the Public Finance Management next week, which could be the ultimate test of their relationship.

The joint Finance and Delegated Legislation Committee is considering the regulation and has been given until next week's Tuesday to submit its report.

President Kenyatta had sought support from ODM and Wiper leaders for the regulations after their adoption by the National Assembly three weeks ago.

Deputy President Ruto, on the other hand, mobilized his troops to fail the regulations, arguing that the decision on increasing the capping interest rate could only be done after the ruling parliamentary party's group took a position on the matter.
