On what would have been Emiliano Sala's 29th birthday, his sister Romina Sala paid a heartfelt tribute to the tragic striker who died in a plane crash in January 2019.
Former Cardiff City player Sala, 28, was on his way to be unveiled as a new player when the accident occurred, and his body was later recovered from the English Channel.
As the family and fans remembered Sala on his birthday, Argentine club San Martin de Progreso, where he started his youth football career, unveiled a mural dedicated to his memory and named their stadium the Emiliano Sala Stadium.
Club president Daniel Ribero explained that the idea to change the stadium's name came after the body surfaced and a wake was held in the club, with the directive committee deciding to name the main pitch in Sala's honour.
On her Instagram, Romina Sala shared a touching message, saying: "There are no words that can describe the pain. Happy birthday brother! Where ever you are, give us the strength to go on. I wish everything were different… I promise you we will not stop until the end. Kisses to heaven."
