On November 1, 2019, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi launched a crackdown on cartels operating at the Nairobi Civil Registry office.
As a result, 24 officials were arrested by the DCI in a raid targeting those involved in the issuance of fake birth and death certificates in Nairobi.
