On November 1, 2019, the DCI launched a crackdown on Winners Chapel International pastors accused of promoting occultism.

The pastors, mostly of Nigerian descent, allegedly lured Kenyans into occult practices with promises of wealth and a luxurious lifestyle.

Investigations into the murder of a Catholic priest, attributed to cult-related rituals, led police to pounce on the cult led by the pastors.

Believers were reportedly encouraged to terminate human life to be recognized as members of the cult groups, raising questions about the authenticity of pastors and the safety of believers.

DCI officers grilled the pastors and others from unpopular city churches to help crack the underworld syndicate threatening thousands of Kenyans.
