Kenyan Student Erick Kang'ethe Found Dead at University of Massachusetts Amherst

On November 1, 2019, the University of Massachusetts Amherst community was shocked by the discovery of the body of Erick Kang'ethe, a computer engineering student, in the vicinity of McGuirk Alumni Stadium.

According to MassLive.Com, Kang'ethe was born in Nairobi, Kenya, before his family moved to Massachusetts, where he graduated from Doherty Memorial High School in Worcester.

He was an active member of the Worcester-based organization Cultural Exchange through Soccer, where he volunteered and received a scholarship this year.

Associate vice chancellor and interim dean of students David Vaillancourt expressed the university's condolences to Kang'ethe's family and friends, saying, "We extend our sincere condolences to Erick's family and friends,"

The Massachusetts State Police are investigating the cause of death, which has not yet been disclosed.

Before his discovery, Kang'ethe's mother, Rosebell Kinyanjui, had posted on social media, "This is my son ERICK KANGETHE….He is a student at Umass At Amherst and has been missing since Sunday….
