On April 12, 2019, a dramatic incident unfolded in Kenya when two Cuban doctors were abducted from a hospital in Mandera. Six months later, the driver of the vehicle carrying the doctors, Issack Ibreim Robow, was arraigned in court, facing serious charges.

According to the prosecution, Robow is accused of kidnapping, aiding and abetting terrorism, and faking Kenyan citizenship. The alleged crimes were committed on the same day the doctors were abducted.

Prosecutor Harisson Kiarie revealed that Robow was driving the Cuban doctors to Mandera Referral Hospital when they were taken. ATPU officers arrested the suspect on the same day, and he was later flown to Nairobi for further investigation.

During the court proceedings, a police officer, Mr. Kesi, testified about the events surrounding the abduction. He described how a white Probox vehicle with four men passed their Toyota Land Cruiser and opened fire, causing the driver to stop and disappear. The officer also recounted how one of his colleagues was shot dead, and the white Probox vehicle drove off with the two medics.

“Our driver had already stopped and disappeared…three men were wielding AK 47 rifles, I also took off for safety, unfortunately my colleague who was also guarding the doctors was shot dead. The white Probox later drove off with the two medics,” Mr. Kesi said.

The prosecution witness, 07, will continue to testify on Thursday to be cross-examined by the accused's lawyer.
