On November 1, 2019, Tanzanian comedian Idris Sultan was freed on bail after sharing face-swap photos of himself and President John Magufuli.

According to his lawyer, Benedict Alex Ishabakaki, Sultan was questioned at a police station in Dar es Salaam after being summoned on Wednesday.

Although he was released on bail, Sultan is expected to return to the police station on Friday.

The police were considering charging Sultan under the Cybercrimes Act, which forbids using a computer system to impersonate someone else and the publication of false information.

The comedian, a one-time winner of Big Brother Africa, had shared two photos on Wednesday: one showed President Magufuli's head atop Sultan's likeness, and the other had Sultan's face on Magufuli's body.
