Is Jowie Being Denied Bail Because He is Poor? ¶
Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino has asked the judiciary to consider releasing Joseph Irungu alias Jowie on bail, citing that he is being denied bail because he is poor.
On September 2018, Jowie was arrested in connection to the murder of Monicah Kimani alongside Jacque Maribe. Unlike Maribe, who was released on bail, Jowie has remained at Kamiti Maximum Prison to date.
Babu Owino took to his social media to express his concerns, stating, 'THE JUDICIARY IS BEING USED!!!'
He went on to list several instances where individuals accused of murder were granted bail, including Governor Obado and Sarah Wairimu. He questioned why Jowie, who is poor, is being denied bail, while those who are wealthy are granted bail.
According to the court ruling, Jowie was denied bail because he might interfere with the case, he is a threat to himself, and he has no permanent residence. Additionally, the court feared that he might be a flight risk and that he is a dangerous person due to owning a gun.
However, Babu Owino believes that Jowie should be granted bail and that he should be given cash bail/bond term by the judiciary. He argued that Marxism's law is that equity is equality, and that he who comes to equity must come with clean hands.
He ended his post by asking, 'Is it coz JOWI is poor that's why he is being frustrated by the Rich judiciary?' and calling for Jowie's release on bail.
