IEBC Refutes ODM Claims Over Kibra Voters Register ¶
On October 31, 2019, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) accused the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of playing hide and seek with the Kibra constituency voter register.
ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna stated that the register the party received from the IEBC did not have ID numbers, making the exercise a charade. He gave the IEBC a 24-hour ultimatum to provide the complete register or storm their offices at Anniversary Towers.
However, in a statement issued on Thursday night, IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati maintained that the commission truncated the details for privacy purposes as provided for in the constitution of the land.
According to Chebukati, the total number of registered voters for the constituency eligible to vote is 118,658 as per the published Gazette Notice. This includes 383 new voters added to the certified 2017 Register of Voters.
IEBC sternly cautioned ODM officials to cease from deliberately misleading voters and the general public, stating that the commission is committed to providing a level playing field for all candidates and political parties.
