Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been summoned by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to answer allegations of providing false information in his self-declaration form during the 2017 general election.

According to a report, the EACC wants Sonko to shed light on over 10 criminal cases that were pending at the time he was running for office.

On October 31, the EACC asked Sonko to appear at their headquarters on November 5, 2019, to answer the allegations.

“The Commission is investigating allegations that you provided false information to the commission in your self-declaration form dated March 9, 2017,” the letter stated.

Responding to the allegations, Sonko accused the media of witch-hunt and claimed that he had been cleared by the DCI to vie for political seats in 2010, 2013, and 2017.

“Githeri media at it again. First I received a bribe of 20m. Now I have more than 10 pending cases in court. They’re not telling Kenyans which cases, which courts? Who are the complainants? Why did to the DCI clear me to vie in 2010 (MP), 2013 (Senator) and 2017( Governor)” he posed.

He also published a photo of his police clearance certificate to back his claims.
