On November 1, 2019, Kisumu County Assembly members grilled Finance and Economic Planning nominee George Omondi over the purchase of a Sh19 million Toyota Land Cruiser for Governor Anyang' Nyong'o.

Mr. Omondi, who was being vetted at the Aga Khan Hall, was hard-pressed to explain the process behind the vehicle's purchase. He claimed that government assessors were looking into the car's price, and he promised to institute investigations.

However, Communication Director Alloyce Ager defended the purchase, stating that the governor only had one official vehicle, which was bought six years ago and had grown old. Mr. Ager claimed that the administration had good intentions when they bought the car.

During the vetting, Omondi was also questioned over the county's failure to buy seven ambulances despite Sh65 million being allocated for the project.
