Kenyan Student Found Dead on UMass Amherst Campus

On November 31, 2019, a Kenyan student was found dead on the campus of the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

The body of Erick Kang'ethe, a junior studying Computer Engineering, was discovered in the vicinity of McGuirk Alumni stadium.

Massachusetts State Police are investigating the cause of death, which has not yet been disclosed.

Erick was born in Nairobi, Kenya and had been studying at UMass for several years. He was an active member of the Worcester-based non-profit organization Cultural Exchange through Soccer (CETS) and had plans to pursue a master's degree in Security Engineering upon graduating.

UMass Associate Vice Chancellor David C. Vaillancourt expressed condolences to Erick's family and friends in an email to students.
