On November 1, 2019, the University of Massachusetts Amherst community was shocked by the discovery of a student's body on campus.
According to UMass police, the body of Erick Kang'ethe, a junior studying Computer Engineering, was found lying in the vicinity of McGuirk Alumni stadium on Wednesday night.
Massachusetts State Police are investigating the cause of death, which has not yet been disclosed.
Erick, born in Nairobi, Kenya, had migrated to the United States with his family and was pursuing his academic goals at UMass.
He was an active member of the Worcester-based non-profit organization Cultural Exchange through Soccer (CETS) and had plans to pursue a master's degree in Security Engineering upon graduating.
UMass Associate Vice Chancellor David C. Vaillancourt expressed the university's condolences to Erick's family and friends in an email to students.
