On October 26, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in Katani, Machakos, where three people were shot, leaving one dead and two injured.

Anthony Kilonzo Sammy, a General Service Unit (GSU) officer, is suspected of shooting dead his lover, Purity Wanjiru, and her mother, Mrs. Ann Katita, while injuring Ann's husband.

According to Corporal Ezekiel Ngode, a police officer attached to the special crimes prevention unit, Kilonzo was arrested on October 30, 2019, after he was found to have lied about accidentally shooting himself while on official duty.

Ngode stated that Kilonzo had absented himself from duty since October 23, 2019, and his whereabouts were unknown until he was found at Komarock Modern Hospital in Utawala with a gunshot wound.

During his arrest, Kilonzo provided information that led to the recovery of two firearms used in the incident, which are also connected to a robbery at Wilson airport where another GSU officer was killed.

Senior Resident Magistrate Muthoni Nzibe granted the police's request to detain Kilonzo for 21 days to complete investigations, citing that the suspect might interfere with the case if released on bond.

The court also directed that Kilonzo be taken for a mental assessment at Mathai referral hospital.

The case will be mentioned on November 21, 2019.
