On October 31, 2019, Sportpesa CEO Ronald Karauri announced that the company would recall termination letters issued to employees in early October.
The move comes after the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) advised Sportpesa to issue proper and legal notices to employees as they await a decision on their application.
Earlier in October, Sportpesa had sent over 400 employees home due to tax and license woes, citing tough regulation and operating conditions.
The company had also withdrawn all sponsorship to clubs, but had expressed a willingness to return to the market when adequate taxation and a non-hostile regulatory environment are in place.
