Kenyan rapper Fena Gitu has sparked a heated debate on social media after accusing fellow artists of failing to show support for each other.
According to Fena, the low turnout at music listening parties is a reflection of the lack of unity among Kenyan artists.
She pointed out that her own album listening party was attended by only three artists, including a close friend, while Elani's album launch event had a handful of artists in attendance.
"KENYAN ARTISTS BARELY SHOW UP FOR FELLOW ARTISTS. There were like 4 artists (one who is my best friend so it doesn't count) at my listening party, and a handful last night @elanimuziki's listening party. Na tunataka fans watusupport. Anyway, album ni ya mafans, ama?" Fena tweeted on October 31, 2019.
Her concerns appear to be rooted in the online outcry by artists who lamented the lack of airplay for Kenyan music on mainstream media and by deejays, who claimed that music from Nigeria and Tanzania had taken over the airwaves.
