On October 31, 2019, Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) offices were raided by auctioneers along Ngong Road, Nairobi, amidst financial struggles.

Photos of the KRU offices being raided went viral on social media platforms, including Twitter and Facebook, as the Union faced claims of having no money with pending debts.

According to a Twitter user, Eric Njiru, the raid was a result of the Union's many debts, and he called upon the Sports Minister and Permanent Secretary to address the issue.

Kenya Rugby Union had submitted an annual budget of 280 million to the Ministry of Sports, but the ministry only approved 193 million for the annual budget, leaving the Union struggling to cater for the team's expenses.

Just a week prior to the raid, the Sports Federation had expressed their frustration over the lack of funding and delay of disbursement of funds by the Ministry of Sports.

As a result, the Kenya Rugby Union offices were left with men hired by the auctioneer carrying away office furniture and equipment, highlighting the dire financial situation of the Union.
