AFC Leopards is facing another challenge as forward Ismail Diarra has asked to leave the club. According to Nairobi News, Diarra shared his intentions with the club management on Monday.
He was then asked to put his request in writing, which he has done. The club's chairman, Dan Shikanda, has acknowledged receipt of the letter.
Shikanda told Goal.com that Diarra has personal reasons for wanting to leave, but it is not due to salary delays. Shikanda will make a decision once he is back in Nairobi and has verified Diarra's reasons.
It is believed that Diarra wishes to take advantage of a law that allows him to leave the club without paying a penalty, given that he has not been paid his salary for three months.
Diarra joined AFC Leopards in July 2019, after stints at Rayon Sport in Rwanda and DC Motema Pembe in DR Congo. However, he has struggled to find form, scoring no goals in three appearances for the club this season.
Leopards is one of several Kenyan football clubs affected by a cash crunch, which has led to unpaid salaries for players.
