On October 31, 2019, a General Service Unit (GSU) police officer, Anthony Kilonzo, was arrested in connection with the murder of two women in Katani, Machakos County. He has been detained for 21 days to allow police conclude investigations.

Kilonzo was arrested at a hospital in Nairobi where he had gone to seek treatment for a gunshot wound. In a surprising twist, he claimed that he was hired to kill the mother and her daughter.

However, the court interrupted Kilonzo's narration to establish whether he was aware of the implication of his claims. The court also directed that he be taken for a mental assessment.

Meanwhile, a director of a clearing and forwarding firm and two directors of second-hand motor vehicle importing firms have been charged in a Mombasa court for allegedly colluding to evade import duty worth 15 million shillings. Jamal Abdulrahman Mao Ahmad Karama Omar and Said Maridadi Maulana denied the charge and were released on a cash bail of 100,000 or an alternative bond of 1 million shillings.
