On August 1, 2019, a heinous crime was committed in Awendo, Migori County, when Juma Musa defiled his 13-year-old sister-in-law.
Twenty months later, on October 31, 2019, the Rongo Law Court Resident Magistrate Raymond Langat found Musa guilty under Section 215 of the Sexual Offenses Act.
Magistrate Langat ruled that the medical evidence, circumstantial evidence, and oral testimonies from seven witnesses presented in court were irrefutable, convincing him beyond reasonable doubt of Musa's guilt.
As a deterrent to others with similar intentions, the magistrate handed down a 20-year prison sentence to Musa.
The convicted man has been granted 14 days to appeal the judgement.
