On October 31, 2019, Kenyans took to social media to express their shock after photos emerged of auctioneers raiding the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) offices along Ngong Road, Nairobi.

The auctioneers, acting on behalf of Emi Travel, left with office equipment, the Safari Sevens trophy, and other valuables. The agency had been instructed to auction KRU property to recover a debt of return tickets for the Kenya 15's test match against Spain in 2015.

Despite several efforts to resolve the issue out of court, the debt remained unpaid, leading to the auction. The incident has sparked concerns about the financial management of the KRU.

"It is an old debt. The incident is unfortunate but there is nothing we could do," said KRU chair Oduor Gangla. "We access most of these services on credit when the government does not pay on time, then we encounter such incidents," he added.
