On October 31, 2019, Kenyan rapper Fena Gitu expressed her disappointment at the lack of support from her fellow artists. She took to Twitter to share her concerns, citing the low turnout at her album listening party and Elani's album launch.
According to Fena, only a handful of artists attended Elani's listening party, while her own event was graced by just three artists, including her friend. She performed live at the Alchemist in Westlands, Nairobi, to a crowd of fans.
Fena's concerns are rooted in an online outcry by artists who feel that Kenyan music is being overlooked by the mainstream media and deejays. They claim that music from Nigeria and Tanzania has taken over the airwaves.
She tweeted, 'KENYAN ARTISTS BARELY SHOW UP FOR FELLOW ARTISTS. There were like 4 artists (one who is my best friend so it doesn't count) at my listening party, and a handful last night @elanimuziki's listening party. Na tunataka fans watusupport. Anyway, album ni ya mafans, ama??♀️' (@Fena_menal)
