On October 27, 2019, a mother and her daughter were shot dead at the gate of their home in Katani, Machakos County.

According to police, the suspect, a trained GSU officer, shot himself in the leg after the murders and helped recover two firearms used in the crime.

The same firearms were linked to a robbery incident at Wilson airport where a GSU officer was killed.

During a court hearing, the suspect claimed he was approached by a friend to carry out the killings, saying, "I recorded statements when I was at the hospital and yesterday when I was arrested …I confessed that I was called by a friend to do the job of killing the lady."

The court, however, cut him short, asking if he understood the application, and ruled that the suspect be remanded until November 21 for mental assessment.
