Nakuru's Top Fry head coach Felix Oloo has come out to defend his players after they were thrashed 31-5 by Menengai Oilers in a recent match.
According to Oloo, the team's poor performance was not due to a lack of effort, but rather the delayed payment of their allowances and medical cover.
"There has been a go-slow in the team, but it's being sorted out," Oloo explained in an interview with Citizen Digital. "There are a lot of issues which I'm trying to address pertaining to player welfare, including their allowances not coming on time, medical insurance, house allowance, and being unappreciated."
Oloo emphasized that the team's performance was not linked to their off-field woes, saying that the opposition had simply been too good on the day.
"I believe the players played their level best according to the training session we had, and I don't believe there could be much change in the match because I only believe in training," Oloo said.
Despite the team's struggles, Oloo remains optimistic that they will be able to retain their senior players and maintain their Kenya Cup core status.
"If all the senior players come back in the squad, I assure you Nakuru will be title contenders," Oloo said.
However, if the senior players refuse to return, Oloo will have no option but to use the current team and ensure they play their best to win games.
Nakuru will host Menengai Cream Homeboys at the NAC grounds, Nakuru this weekend.
