Kenyan rapper Fena Gitu has sparked a heated debate on social media after accusing fellow artistes of failing to show support for each other.

According to Fena, the low turnout at Elani's album listening party on Wednesday night was a stark reminder of the lack of solidarity among Kenyan artistes.

She also vented about her own album listening party, which was attended by only three artistes, including her friend.

“KENYAN ARTISTS BARELY SHOW UP FOR FELLOW ARTISTS. There were like 4 artists (one who is my best friend so it doesn’t count) at my listening party, and a handful last night @elanimuziki’s listening party. Na tunataka fans watusupport. Anyway, album ni ya mafans, ama?” Tweeted Fena Gitu on October 31, 2019.

Her concerns appear to be rooted in the online outcry by artistes who lamented how the mainstream media and deejays do not play Kenyan music, instead opting for music from Nigerian and Tanzanian artists.

As the debate rages on, Kenyans on Twitter have given varied opinions on the matter, with some calling for more support from fellow artistes.
