With just a week left before the Kibra by-election, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has expressed concerns over the voter register provided by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). The party claims that the register lacks voters' ID numbers, making the verification process difficult.
On October 31, 2019, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna wrote a press release stating that the IEBC had failed to provide a complete voter register as promised. The party is demanding that the IEBC provide a register with the full name of the voter, polling station, and ID number.
According to the ODM, the IEBC had committed to releasing the updated register on October 17, but instead, they released an incomplete register on October 24. The party claims that the incomplete register does not contain ID numbers, making it difficult for voters to verify their registration particulars.
ODM has also raised concerns over the deletion of people's names from the voter register, transfer of voters from one polling station to another, and the addition of new voters into the voter register. The party is demanding that the IEBC come clean on these issues.
ODM has urged its supporters to visit the IEBC offices to verify and confirm that their names, polling stations, and ID numbers are intact ahead of the by-election on November 7.
