On October 31, 2019, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui announced plans for the Naivasha Affordable Housing Unit, targeting low-income earners in the Sh15,000 to Sh150,000 bracket.

The proposed housing scheme, located on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway near GK prisons, aims to provide at least 2,400 housing units.

According to Governor Kinyanjui, the project will be built on a 55-acre land acquired by the county government and will be implemented through a joint venture between the county and a private partner.

The governor emphasized the importance of transparency and fairness in the selection process for beneficiaries, stating that the project will be guided by national government guidelines.

He also highlighted the need for improved planning to address the proliferation of informal settlements in the area, citing the county's efforts to enhance service delivery.

Naivasha, described as a fast-growing commercial hub, is expected to benefit from the project, which is linked to the Department for International Development's Urban Economic Development programme.

The World Bank is providing technical assistance to the county, with a focus on improving the investment climate.
