On October 25, 2019, a court issued a consent order obtained by Joy Furaha Mranja, a resident, which stopped Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi from presiding over assembly sittings.
The order also barred Elachi, the assembly, the Nairobi City County Service Board, the acting speaker, and the clerk from bringing in unauthorized individuals who might disrupt the assembly's business.
However, Elachi countered that the order had compromised her right to move freely and discharge her constitutional duties as speaker.
She alleged that the consent order was obtained through the collusion of her advocates, Musyoki and Co., without her knowledge or consent.
According to court documents, 'No advocate-client relationship has ever subsisted between Elachi and the said Musyoki and Co. Advocates to permit Mogaka Advocate to enter into any consent in these or any other proceedings on behalf of the respondent.'
On October 31, 2019, Elachi secured a second court victory, with the courts intervening to rescue her from the rogue Jubilee MCAs.
